COCOTIQUE Unboxing | June 2016

I'm a huge fan of subscription boxes! I think they're such a fun way to try out new beauty products without committing to full sizes. Plus, it keeps a surprise in your mailbox besides bills every month.

I've been eyeballing COCOTIQUE since last year when I was giving the first few months of the Essence Beauty Box a try. As a Black woman, representation in the beauty space means the world to me. The fact that there are subscription boxes that cater to and are curate specially for women of color warms my heart. When COCOTIQUE asked me to try their boxes, I was already down for the opp!

Each month, for only $20 (and free shipping) members receive a cocoa-colored box filled with 5-8 expertly curated deluxe sample and full-size products. Before this, I didn't even have friends who had received a COCOTIQUE box, so this experience was 100% brand new. To be honest, what I've seen in these boxes beats anything I've seen so far from other services.

I received 7 products in my June box -- most of which were from brands I'd never heard of before. The only brand I knew was Creme of Nature. I loved this! Lots of ladies are subscribed to multiple beauty boxes at a time and some brands commit to several of them in the same month, so they end up with 2-3 of the same product. I appreciate seeing indie brands mixed with mainstream brands.

Since I'm a beauty blogger, I'm always trying new products...so I haven't gotten to these just yet. BUT I will say that sample sizes in subscription boxes really come in handy for me especially when I have to travel. See how all of these are under 3 oz? SCORE.

Here's what came in this month's COCOTIQUE box:

  • Badger | Tea Tree & Lemon Herbal Lip Care
  • Beauty & Pin Ups | Luxe Leave-In Spray On Revitalizing Conditioner
  • Creme of Nature | Perfect Edges Extra Hold
  • Naked Beaute | Moisturizing Shaving Soap
  • Naughty Cosmetics | Orgazmic Mascara
  • Ultra Sheen Supreme | #Sleek
  • Elaine Hair & Body | Mango Papaya Butter (The Bonus Product)

Based on the contents (and already seeing the box for July), I think COCOTIQUE is very worth the money and after doing the calculations in relation to the sizes included, I found that this box was worth more than the $20 fee. The products were actually worth over $40. It also does a great job of introducing women of color to indie brands, because sometimes I think we get really stuck on the mainstream brands from the grocery and beauty supply stores. While COCOTIQUE is NOT only for women of color, everything is curated for women of color in mind. I used to hate getting subscription boxes where I couldn't even use the hair products or the makeup shades were in super fair/light. This box is the way to go and I can't wait to see the next few boxes!
