A few weeks ago, I hopped in the car with my family for a road trip from Dallas (Texas) to Denver, Colorado. My parents were raised there (high school sweethearts) and we like to visit to see my grandmother during the summer. Since I'm incorporating more of my lifestyle and everyday experiences outside of the beauty world on my blog, I wanted to share a few of my favorite food spots whenever I'm in Denver.
Good Times Burgers & Frozen Custard
The first spot is Good Times Burgers & Frozen Custard. On our last trip last summer, I was the only person in the car who wanted to eat here. I think we may have stopped here twice per my request. But this time, everyone was super hungry after a long day so they decided to get burgers with me. *evil laugh* They were hooked and confessed that they went multiple times after I flew back to Dallas early for my internship. I told 'em it was fire!
I usually order a regular cheeseburger but I wanted to try something a bit different, so I got the Guacamole Bacon Burger. OH. MY. GOSH. The guacamole was amazing and not the bland kind. It actually had a spicy kick to it which made the burger so much more interesting and enjoyable...because I can't stand bland food. Their site calls it "taste bud heaven" -- they aren't lying!
All combos come with fries and you have the option to get Natural Cut or Wild Fries. Wild Fries have a batter seasoned with spices while the Natural Cut are your good ole salted fries. I get the natural cut fries and love 'em!
It definitely wouldn't be Good Times Burgers & Frozen Custard without the frozen custard! I didn't get any this time, but my dad and sister decided to get a small cup to share. There are quite a few mouthwatering flavors and mixes such as Strawberry Cheesecake Addiction and Raspberry Chocolate Truffle...or you can go with the plain ol' vanilla (as pictured above).
On my last day in Denver we went to the mountains, so we were extremely hungry after walking around in the sun so much. Guess where we went? *covers eyes* On this second visit, I decided to get something different from what I usually get. I tried the chicken strips in a combo with Natural Cut fries and honey mustard to dip. Not only were the chicken strips very fresh and hot, but it wasn't that McDonald's chicken nugget type of chicken (y'all know what I'm talking about).
I highly recommend this place when you're in Colorado and there are many locations!
Voodoo Doughnut: Mile High
Before we even stopped at Good Times at the beginning of the weekend, Voodoo Doughtnut was a must! They also have locations in Portland, Oregon and a new one right in Austin, Texas as well as Taipei City, Taiwan. If you're looking for something off-the-wall and unusual, this is it. The names are just as crazy as the actual doughnuts. There are doughnuts with everything on them from your favorite breakfast cereal to maple bacon! What you get really depends on what you personally like. See what I picked on this trip below.
Voodoo Doll Doughnut (filled with raspberry jelly and topped with chocolate frosting and a pretzel stake) // Bacon Maple Bar Doughnut (maple frosting with strips of bacon) // Dirt Doughnut (vanilla frosting and crushed Oreo cookies)
