RA Sushi Gives Back with Nicky's Week Menu Benefiting St. Jude

Today kicked off the 13th Annual Nicky's Week at RA Sushi benefiting St. Jude Children's Research Hospital with a special curated menu where 100% of the proceeds are donated from May 22-28. Ever since my visit to Nobu a few weeks ago, I've been craving some good sashimi and seared tuna, so I definitely wanted to try this spot out and share about this thoughtful fundraiser.

About Nicky's Week

Nicky's Week honors the life of Nicholas Mailliard, who lost his battle with pediatric cancer in 2005 at the age of 13. Nicky was the nephew of Rich Howland, one of RA Sushi’s founders. His battle with cancer deeply impacted the RA Sushi family and inspired the annual event benefiting St. Jude.

RA Sushi anticipates to raise over $200,000 this year bringing their overall contributions since its inception in 2005 to $2 million. Cash donations are also accepted. Dallas locations include: Southlake, Addison, and Plano.

My sister and I visited the RA Sushi location in Addison which is an excellent location for busy business professionals in the area who want a solid lunch, happy hour or girls' night out/date night dinner. It's a pretty casual restaurant that still has the swank of an upscale spot. There's even a fire pit on the patio that would be amazing to sip cocktails by in the evening. All of the menu items we had the opportunity to taste were delicious and we thoroughly enjoyed each dish.

Here's what we got to taste:

Unfortunately, I won't be able to make it back to the restaurant again before the end of Nicky's Week, but I have definitely found a new restaurant with three convenient locations for me: Addison, Southlake, and Plano. I'm excited to return very soon though! I've been dying to find a restaurant nearby with good sashimi and seared tuna, and RA Sushi has both at affordable prices. Rex's Seafood at The Market | Dallas Farmers Market

I should really browse Groupon more often for food deals because I've been desperately searching for the perfect lobster rolls in Dallas. I've been to East Hampton Sandwich Co., but I love to try different variations of dishes. When I saw the deal for $20 worth of food at Rex's Seafood at The Market, I quickly browsed their menu and decided they would be whipping up my lunch for the day.

I've been to the Dallas Farmers Market several times, but I usually grab a cup of jambalaya from Tailgaters (cajun food) and a half dozen of macarons from Chelle's Macarons. I quickly found my way to Rex's Seafood and ordered one lobster roll to-go which came with my choice of one side, so I chose red beans and rice. The lobster salad was so fresh and even the roll it was stuffed in was delicious, too! Once I finished my lobster roll, I remembered that I had the beans left to eat, so I practically inhaled those next. I definitely recommend this spot and will for sure be trying other items from their menu in the future!

Whisk Crêpes Café | French Delectables in the Heart of Dallas

I always seem to find the cutest Dallas food spots on Instagram -- places I don't ever find in a Google search. That's the power of social media for you! The other day, I came across Whisk Crêpes Cafe in Dallas that I immediate knew I needed to try.

Since I was in the area today working on a new city article, I decided to stop by for a quick bite. The entire menu consists of only crêpes both savory and sweet. There are several specialty dishes, but you can also create your own crepe by choosing the toppings à la carte.

I spent a few minutes at the register browsing the menu trying to figure out what type I wanted before settling on the Cinnamon Apple on flour (buckwheat is also available for savory crêpes). It was delicious! Triangle folded filled with cinnamon apples and cream cheese, drizzled in caramel and topped with pecans. It tasted like a comfy overcast day watching Netflix on a plate. Every single bite was enjoyable.

If you're a huge crêpe fan or want a wider variety than what you'd typically find on a restaurant menu, this is where you need to go. I love sweet, dessert-tasting things...but next time I go, I definitely want to try a savory crêpe.

Whisk Crêpes Cafe is located at 1888 Sylvan Ave.
They are now open 7 days a week from 8AM-10PM

LUNCH | Maple Bourbon Meatballs at Henry's Majestic

Thursday was super busy! I got a ton of blog stuff done and emails answered before heading into the city for a quick meeting and chocolate tasting at Sablon Chocolate Lounge. For the meeting, we decided to meet at Henry's Majestic which was perfect because I'd never been before. I wanted to go last month when I was working on my brunch story for ForRent.com, but they only have weekend brunch and I was on the hunt for a Friday spot.

When I arrived, at around 2:30, it was empty inside. The interior gave major Alfred Hitchcock vibes with fake crows and suspense/horror film-like decor everywhere. There were a few parties on the patio though -- including ours. Since I had to dash to the chocolate tasting in the middle of the meeting, I wanted something that would be quick to make and eat. The maple bourbon meatballs seemed like a great choice, so I ordered that and they were on the table in about 5-7 minutes.

The dish is great if you need something quick like I did or you're on a diet that encourages you to stay away from carbs. There were five meatballs on the dish marinated in a light maple bourbon sauce (not thick at all). I didn't feel full at all after eating them as it is just an appetizer, but it was nice to order for my short time at the meeting and get something in my tummy before the chocolate tasting.

I definitely want to go back for brunch even though I've slowed down since my brunch-packed weekend last month, but I've heard the chicken + waffles and other dishes are promising. If you've been before, let me know in the comments!

Henry's Majestic is located at 4900 McKinney Ave. in Uptown Dallas

National Taco Day | Taco Diner in West Village

Today is National Taco Day, Taco Tuesday, and National Vodka Day. Seriously, I think today just might be the most epic taco day EVER. I decided to go to one of my favorite little taco restaurants in West Village called Taco Diner. It's the cutest spot that's perfect for happy hour with your girlfriends (the drinks are yummy), date nights, and casual people watching.

I started with the Queso Blanco and chose to add the seasoned ground beef at no additional charge. This is one thing I love about Taco Diner because other places definitely charge to add meat to the queso. There's also a second option to add brisket.

To drink, I settled on the mango aguas frescas. I wanted something fruity, but not fizzy or alcoholic. This was my first time getting one and I think it'll be an option next time, too.

As for tacos, I typically like to go for steak, beef, or pulled pork...but I thought it would be nice to try something new. I ordered the fish tacos which is filled with pan-seared tilapia fillets with anchiote citrus marinade, and they were actually pretty good. So many people have told me to try fish tacos and I've cringed every single time. I still like my usual order though.

Today may have been National Taco Day, but everyday is perfectly appropriate for tacos in my opinion. I'm always down to try a new taco spot.
