6 Easy Ways to Update Accent Decor | Royal Blue + Gold

This post is sponsored by At Home; however, I had 100% creative freedom and hope you enjoy!

One of the easiest ways to update your entire look is by simply changing accent decor. You can transition from season-to-season or completely change the style in just a few hours. This month, with the help of At Home, I was able to take my living room from super bright and bold for spring and summer to deep, glamorous, and sophisticated for fall and winter.

First, I decided on a new color scheme.

New Color Scheme Royal Blue, White, Gold

1. Change the Lamp Shade

Most of the time, when you purchase a new lamp, it comes with a basic white shade. Honestly, I always contently used these and never thought anything of it. However, the simple change of a lamp shade can really get things spiced up!

I picked out a gorgeous oval royal blue lamp shade from At Home and got rid of my plain white rectangular one. It's a statement lamp and the blue shade actually does it justice now! See the major difference?

2. Switch Out The Pillows (and keep your faves)

You know those pillows on the couch that we don't allow anyone to sleep on? Well, you can buy MORE! Switch out a few to change the look and keep your favorites to stay true to your style. I kept four pillows and added two royal blue ones. Check out my before and after below to see how I did it!

3. Add a Rug

You might have noticed that I added a rug. Seriously, I didn't realize how much it would improve the overall look of my living room. It adds a touch of style that brings everything together and makes it all cohesive.

I fell in love with this rug when I saw it on a display at my local At Home. I think I went to stare at it in awe at least two times before finally deciding that it needed a home and my apartment would gladly accept it. It has a gold loop geometric design with beautiful metallic gold threads throughout that makes it fit the glamorous style.

Since I didn't have anymore room on my futon for the marble pillow, I decided to leave it on the rug since I sit on the floor at my mid-century hoofed La Barge coffee table a lot.

4. Drape a Throw

This one is very simple. Just drape a throw over the back of your couch or futon to give a more comfy feel. It also helps tie the pillows together.

5. Stand Out with Statements (and Save Space)

This is another piece I fell in love with from At Home. I'm obsessed with stones, rocks, and crystals and had quite a few pieces to pair it with already. I didn't want to get rid of the accent table I'd previously purchased from At Home, so I decided to place this one next to my full-length mirror.

You can also save space by placing a stack of your favorite books or magazines under a taller accent table. Since they're under the table, it doesn't take up any extra space.

6. Pour It Up In Style

This probably doesn't count as decor, but I needed a few new glasses for my coffee table. I've seen so many bloggers with those cutesy, gold decorative glasses, so when I spotted these stemless wine glasses...I just had to have them!

I've been on the hunt for the perfect bar cart for MONTHS, but I recently realized that I just don't have the room for one right now. See how I used them for easy coffee table cocktails.

How often do you update your accent decor? What are your tips? I wanna know!
