I Have A Personal Stylist for $25 A Month! | Trunk Club Review

So...I may not have a ton of styled photos for this blog post, but this month marks my fourth Trunk Club "trunk" and I am so pleased with the service that I really wanted to share my experience so far with you all!

In January, I decided that I was tired of spending hours going shopping for clothes, so signed up for Trunk Club -- new year, new wardrobe! I've always known about this particular service from the rest, but always thought you basically had to be ready to spend hundreds on clothes in order to be successful. I was so wrong!

Back when I was winding down my time at Nordstrom as a salesperson in 2014, I remember hearing that the company had acquired Trunk Club and has since become an extension of my favorite department store. It's convenient, high-quality personal shopping without any hassle and with plenty of Nordstrom perks.

Here's the process:

  • Each month, I get to chat with my stylist on the Trunk Club platform (either via app or the site) in a messenger. It's totally live and real-time which is super cool.
  • My stylist now has a pretty good idea of my style, so she usually asks if I'm looking for anything in particular or have any upcoming trips, events, etc. prior to styling for me. I can even send her a Pinterest board to reference! Trunk Club Tip: The more info you can provide, the better your trunk will likely be.
  • Once she has styled my trunk, she sends it over to me for approval. I can always decline any items I don't want and choose to have the remainder of the trunk shipped or my stylist replace them with other items.
  • After I've approved my trunk, it will be shipped to me and my credit card will be charged the styling fee of $25. The trunk arrives at my doorstep in just a few days as previously scheduled.
  • Now the fun part -- I receive my trunk without even having to leave the house and I'm free to unbox/try-on. See what came in this month's trunk below!

For this trunk, I've shown each of the items included in my trunk that can also be found in Nordstrom stores/online and from other brands carried in-store. You could find these items on your own, but Trunk Club takes the stress out of the shopping experience...and it can ABSOLUTELY be stressful sometimes on your own!

Once I've figured out which items I love and that I'm going to keep, I package everything I'm not keeping into the trunk in preparation to return. It's super simple! Depending on if I'm already stopping by the UPS store, I'll just return it myself...but if I'm busy and can't find the time to leave my home, I will schedule a UPS pick-up. I think trunks can even be returned at a Trunk Club location -- there's one here in Dallas.

This post was filled with pros, but here's what else I've found:

  • Quite honestly, I haven't found any cons just yet. Trunk Club has combined everything I love about Nordstrom into this service including the merchandise and the customer service has been stellar.

  • Convenient and stress-free personal styling experience.
  • It's affordable at only $25 for a trunk and that fee goes towards any purchase.
  • I'm sent items from brands that I already know and own.
  • Trunks can be sent however often I need them.
There's no monthly commitment if you don't want it!
  • If I want expensive, my stylist will give me
higher priced items. If I want inexpensive,
I know it's not impossible to receive. There are
options for every budget and I love that!
  • Trunks can be ordered for doorstep delivery,
you can be styled at a Trunk Club clubhouse or
have custom clothing made just for you.
  • You can pay for your purchases with your
Nordstrom debit or credit cards and earn points!
  • If you are using your Nordstrom card, the styling
fee is WAIVED. Yes, that means no fee.
  • If your clothes need adjustments, you can get
them altered at a Trunk Club clubhouse or at a
    Nordstrom store.
  • Sometimes you can even catch items ON SALE! I'm
    all about saving coins.

Follow me at @JaleesaCharisse to eventually see me wearing my Trunk Club pieces. I've purchased new items each month so far. I'll definitely be continuing to use the service and would highly recommend no matter your budget. There's literally something for every age, every style and budget just as it would be in a Nordstrom store!

OOTD | SXSW Edition: All White Everything w/ Rebecca Minkoff & TJMaxx

Last weekend, Airika and I went on a short blogger trip to SXSW in Austin. I'd never been to Austin during SXSW, so I was super excited to finally see what it was all about! We spent the 3-hour drive riding smoothly down the highway in a glacier white 2018 Mazda Mazda3 Sport.

I've been driving Mazdas for about a year now and they just feel so incredibly comfortable...and with each year, they improve so much! My favorite feature lately has been the traffic sign recognition -- it's so convenient for everyday driving, but more so while traveling through towns with quickly changing speed limits. Check out more of the interior in my travel post!

Let's get into this outfit, though:

This entire outfit is from the racks of TJMaxx (except for the Badgley Mischka wedges), so you may or may not be able to find the exact pieces I found. I've pieced together some similar items to shop or help guide you in the right direction while you shop!

OOTD | SXSW Edition: Bungalow Style w/ AMUSE Society, Target & BlankNYC

Over the weekend, Airika (of AirRoLife) and I drove down to Austin in a sporty 2018 Mazda3 for some SXSW festivities. Of course, I'd been to the city before...but never for South By. Our goal was to attend the Create & Cultivate pop-up, but the line to get in was absolutely ridiculous. We decided to just grab a bite to eat for lunch and snap some outfit photos before getting back on the road to Dallas.

I was feeling super sick, but pushed through capturing this cool outfit right outside The Belmont on 6th Street. It was the perfect backdrop for this look and I ended up throwing on my favorite floral embroidered moto jacket -- just because. I swear I can find a way to throw it over ANYTHING.

Jacket: Blank NYC // T-Shirt: A New Day x Target // Pants: Amuse Society // Clutch: Helen Kaminski (similar) // Shades: Halston (more from the brand)

OOTD | The Mauve Botanist

My schedule this week has been full of exclusive sit-down breakfasts, lunches and dinners. Each event has been extraordinary dining rooftop or under the lights of downtown Tuscan-style, but I was specifically looking forward to The Botanist Gin dinner at Kettle Art Gallery. From the moment I received the invitation and brushed up on the brand, I knew exactly which outfit I would wear.

The first thing that popped into my head when I thought of botanicals is lots of "green", so I wanted to stand out in a subtle way. Immediately, I thought about the Rebecca Mauve Romper Dress that I received from Tobi last month! It was playful with the romper yet sophisticated with the dress. The color was also super stunning and it would be a great way to switch up from my favorite marsala pieces. Two years later and I'm still very stuck on the 2015 Pantone Color of the Year... *covers eyes in embarrassment*

I paired the dress with strappy rose gold heels courtesy of blogger boo, Kelley from The Style Barn, and my mom's Givenchy collar necklace. If you're short (like me) or like to show off your legs, this is a fabulous option for any event. As you can see, the dress has a serious plunge neckline, but due to my size I definitely needed some support to avoid a wardrobe malfunction, so I simply wore a lace bandeau-style bralette in black underneath that looks like a cami that worked like a charm.

Bralette: Free Press from Nordstrom Rack
Shoes: Duaya Rose Gold Metallic from Pretty Little Thing

OOTD | Weekend Dreamin'

Mockingbird Station has some of the cutest boutiques and restaurants! I've popped in some of the shops and entertainment venues before, but didn't realize how amazing it really was until an influencer event I was invited to a few weekends ago. We got to see and try some of the new must-visit spots through a highly interactive day tour including Edith's Bakery, Urban Outfitters and Mezza.

I wanted to look chic but comfortable since it would be a full afternoon/evening of activities, so I reached for the Dreamer Black Dress from Tobi. The neckline is a semi-deep V, but for this event I slipped on a tank top underneath.

The open lattice along the front sides and bishop sleeves gave this simple black dress plenty of personality. I dressed it up with my neutral BCBGeneration braided sandals and favorite vintage Gucci. It is perfect for a casual day and a simple transition for a night out!

Shoes: BCBGeneration from DSW
Crossbody: Gucci (vintage)

OOTD | Wild Thoughts Vibes

Maybelline came to Dallas and treated some of the city's hottest influencers to dinner, custom Maybellini cocktails and a look at their six new City Mini Palettes!

It has been a minute since I've posted my outfits, but I attend several events and dress up so why not share the details, right?!

For this beauty event, I decided on something floral and feminine baring my shoulders. I love a cute off-the-shoulder blouse or dress...plus, they're super comfortable and effortless and this Bare Bones Shift Dress from Tobi was totally the one. Not to mention, they give me serious Rihanna vibes from the Wild Thoughts music video.

To pair, I fastened my favorite gold metallic Target platforms that I found at the thrift store a few years ago. They can dress up almost any casual dress and totally beat wearing heels when your feet are completely over all of the arched drama.

Rachel Zoe Brings More Style to 3rd Annual Dallas Startup Week

This season's Box of Style curated by Rachel Zoe and The Zoe Report editors includes style, beauty, and lifestyle goodies from brands such as Tatcha, Butter London, and ethical fashion brand, Symbology.

This season's Box of Style curated by Rachel Zoe and The Zoe Report editors includes style, beauty, and lifestyle goodies from brands such as Tatcha, Butter London, and ethical fashion brand, Symbology.

Rachel Zoe brought more style to the 3rd Annual Dallas Startup Week! I've attended the mini, Dallas-based "SXSW" each year and, as a born-and-raised Dallasite, I'm proud to see the event grow in attendee size and with major brand collaborations. The sessions for aspiring and established entrepreneurs alike are impeccable. Anyone interested in tech, marketing, social media, or entrepreneurship should be here during this annual week of knowledge!

The Box of Style party brought to Dallas Startup Week by Rachel Zoe's team and Style Track Captain, Leah Frazier, was quickly stamped FULL on the event schedule and had a pretty lengthy waitlist of stylish hopefuls. If you weren't able to attend, I managed to get the details for you.

After fighting Dallas traffic, I arrived at the Chase Basecamp and was whisked by elevator to the second floor lounge. The panel discussing the rise of ethical fashion led by Leah Frazier with Carly Burson (Founder of Tribe Alive) and Marissa Heyl (Creative-in-Chief of Symbology Clothing) had already begun, so I waited patiently until the party kicked off. Once the panel was over and attendees started to flood the lounge, the festivities were on!

The gift bag included Craft + Foster 'Champagne Blush' tin candle, a pair of super cute YHF Los Angeles sunnies (mine are name 'Stephanie'), and a few Butter London makeup goodies including the 'Plush Rush' Lip Gloss in First Kiss and the new Oh My, How High! Lengthening Mascara.

I can't wait to see what Dallas Startup Week has up their sleeve for 2018! The next day, I had the pleasure of speaking on a panel about content creation powered by Samsung with their new Gear 360 device. The brand sponsorships and partnerships this year were amazing...and the crowd grows with excitement by the year. Piece of advice: make your Dallas Startup Week schedules as early as possible to get the best event access, or you just might find yourself missing out on another fabulous party.

New Year, New Glasses | David Kind Home Try-On Review *UPDATE*

If you've been following my blog for a few years, then you might remember the compare + review I did while I was on my hunt for new glasses back in 2015. Everyone was raving about Warby Parker, but I wanted to check out some alternatives rather than just settling on the popular option. During my search, I found David Kind and compared everything from the service to quality to Warby Parker's.

Fast forward: I was totally sold on David Kind and ended up earning a pair from them (through my referral link) a few months after writing my review. I picked out the Laurel and love them SO much but now it's time to pick out a new pair (or two) for 2017, so I wanted to update y'all on my journey to clear vision.

Flip through to see what the home try-on set looks like:

I requested a new home try-on set from David Kind to pick out my new pairs of glasses. They do not have physical locations, so you get to try the glasses and ask friends & family for opinions in the comfort of your own home. Each set includes six pairs of glasses: 3 are chosen by you, the other 3 are chosen by your stylist. All I have to do is send photos to my stylist for measurement purposes and my updated prescription. For one price, I get everything I need without having to try on dozens of glasses at a store which can be hella exhausting. *yawn*

Here are the ones that came in my set (left: my picks; right: my stylist's picks):

I tried them on for my mom and we both LOVE the Mia and Trenton, but I want to see what y'all think, too! Join the polls on Instagram to help me decide on a pair. 😝 If you're looking for glasses, definitely try David Kind as an option this year! They're really amazing and the presentation and quality are both lit. You can also read my more in-depth review, here.

Experience David Kind and request a home try-on set to find your perfect frames

OOTD | Winter Tweed & Shearling with Indigo 1745

It's 20-degrees in Dallas today, so I'm pretty sure this tweed shearling coat is totally necessary. The temps have been freezing across the country and we're just a week away from Christmas now! We're in the midst of holiday parties and dinners, so I thought this classic outfit from Indigo 1745 in Bishop Arts District would be perfect for those occasions. Warmth is everything! Matching pieces in tweed always remind me of Chanel. It seems so timeless and sophisticated! I slipped on my black Aldo x Target booties from last fall to give the outfit a more chic look.

After our shoot at Indigo, we decided to eat at Tillman's Roadhouse next door. It was yummy. I usually like to order dishes I've never tried before, but I was really feeling a good ole burger and fries with a fizzy root beer.

OOTD | Shades of Burgundy w/ Indigo 1745 & Vans

Just last week, the temperatures seriously dropped to the 20s and 30s in Dallas. We barely even experienced winter last year, but that's Texas for ya! You never know what you're going to get.

For today's outfit, I've teamed up with Indigo 1745 in the Bishop Arts District to style up a 'fit that's reflective of how I dress everyday. I love anything casual with a little bit of edge, but very put together and only semi-coordinating. Layering is the key to any look, so jackets are a must. At one point, I had MORE jackets than anything else in my closet -- it was pretty insane. I also tend to gravitate towards the same colors that typically look best on me. The burgundy/wine/marsala shades are my greatest obsession in style and beauty. I can literally style a piece in this color with anything and I'll wear it at any time of the year regardless of what the fashion mags say. It's MY color. What are some of your favorite winter trends/pieces?

Leather jacket, plaid button-down, and skinny jeans can be found at Indigo 1745 (in-store) // Sole Society 'Thalia' saddlebag // Vans Camden Deluxe Ultra Crush Sneaker c/o Famous Footwear

OOTD | Rose Gold Everything w/ Boohoo, Missguided & Sole Society

I've been slacking on clothes shopping for a minute now and I have also grown out of several of my old favorites. After my birthday last month, I decided to do two small Boohoo and Missguided orders. I'd never ordered from either of them before, but always admired the trendy pieces...so I finally gave it a shot. Besides seeming like it took a century for my packages to arrive, I'm quite pleased.

This is the outfit I wore last week to my appointment at the new Aveda Experience Center at NorthPark Center. T-shirt dresses are so comfortable and perfect paired with sneakers. There are just some days where I don't feel like wearing heels and a full outfit. *shrug* I also wanted a choker, so I bought a versatile gold metal one that I can wear with several outfits. Isn't it cute? I've dropped the details and links for everything below just in case you want to pick any of the pieces up. 😉 Enjoy!

Outfit Details & Links: Lisa Girl Gang T-Shirt Dress from Boohoo ($16) // Metallic Outsole Rose Gold Trainers from Missguided ($36) // Sole Society 'Thalia' Saddlebag ($50) // Annabel Medium Metal Choker ($8)

Hit these links, girl! You can also see how my morning at the Aveda Experience Center went, here.

OOTD | Chambray + Tribal Print

This week, the temps have finally dropped a little bit in Dallas. I'm pretty ecstatic because that means cuter clothes and no more sweating off makeup at even the coolest hours of the day. When the weather is transitioning to full on Frozen weather, I like to mix some of my spring and summer favorites with fall pieces.

I styled a super versatile chambray button-down with an African print mini skirt I found at Target a few seasons ago. My favorite thing about Target is that I can always find quality pieces and as long as I don't change size, they still look great!

Statement necklaces are a style weakness for me and they always look fabulous with button-down shirts. At one point, I was buying so many of them -- it was nuts. The beaut I'm wearing with this outfit is an old favorite from H&M. My shoes are the VINCE 'Celeste' pumps in Oxblood and they pair well with several outfits especially during fall and winter. During the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale in July, I picked out a new bag from Sole Society and this deep wine color is really more versatile than you'd think! I've barely switched it since I started carrying it.

OOTD | Boho Vibes at Fashion X Dallas

Last night, I was invited by Cadillac to attend the Fashion X Dallas finale. I've never been before, so it was a no brainer to RSVP for the experience. See my recap for shots from the evening. It's been a long time since I've done an OOTD and since I'm on a new journey as a full-time blogger, this is the perfect time to start serving some style realness again.

I had THE toughest time finding something to wear for this event. Aside from the few mismatch gems I found at Nordstrom Rack, everything I picked up either didn't look right or had serious price tags. The boho-style dress I found and wore to the Fashion X Dallas finale was actually from TARGET! Do not sleep on them, y'all. They're lifesavers

Every Target dress I purchase gets a ridiculous amount of compliments and (if you take good care of them) can be worn for long time. Plus, I hate spending crazy money for new outfits to wear to events that can't be worn multiple times. It helps when it's affordable, too.

Need the details for this outfit?

It's officially September! This means we get to flip through the thickest fashion magazines of the year, attend fashion shows, and start buying gorgeous fall pieces. Even as a blogger who loves fashion and knows what to pick, it can be a little difficult shopping for a new season.

They have you covered, girl! And honestly, there's nothing better than getting close and personal with the latest trends -- definitely beats flipping through a traditional catalog any day.

New Season, New Shoes | Nike Dual Fusion TR Hit Training Shoe

nike dual fusion tr hit training shoe

It's been quite a while since I've posted anything fashion-related on the blog, but I wanted to quickly share the amazing deal my mom and I got at Famous Footwear last week! She gave me a call gushing about the new Nike shoes she spotted in one of Famous Footwear's marketing emails, so I decided to get on my MacBook and browse with her over the phone. She wasn't over-exaggerating -- they really were cute. Plus, I wanted a pair during Nordstrom's Anniversary Sale, but I didn't remember them looking like these! 😍

Since they were having a BOGO 1/2 OFF plus 15% OFF with the code 'GET NOTICED' (which I figured was for back-to-school), we decided to each pick out a pair.

nike dual fusion tr hit training shoe

I picked out the Nike Dual Fusion TR Hit Training Shoe in turquoise and green. They look even more gorgeous in person and I'm obsessed with the comfort! I always wear flats, so I'm currently trying to build a wardrobe of athletic shoes for when I run errands. I'm not that blogger who walks around in heels all day. Unless I'm shooting an outfit, I'm super casual. 😖 After we ordered ours, the rest of the family decided to hop on board, too!

If you're on the hunt for shoes this season, you should absolutely hop on this sale at Famous Footwear!

Margaux Trunk Show at Bistro 31 in Dallas | Classic Ballerina Flats

It's been quite a while since I've blogged about style! I think I'm really enjoying the YouTube expansion and being able to actually share my thoughts on beauty products. Over the weekend, I was invited to the Bistro 31 lounge in Highland Park Village for the Margaux trunk show. Of course, I RSVP'd and made my way to Dallas on Saturday morning to see what this new brand was all about.

When I spoke to the girls at the event, they explained to me how they wanted to perfect the ballerina flat and I think they've done a fantastic job at building the brand and product so far. There are several color options, but the flat that really caught my attention was the leopard print! While I always recommend a pop of color, I love a good print to style with an outfit or even mix with other prints. My absolute favorite parts of the design were the memory foam and the rubber-tipped leather sole that both really help lengthen the life of the ballerina flat because I wear my flats almost every single day or when I'm not wearing heels!

How much are Margaux flats? Classic standard sizes will cost you $175; made-to-measure (or custom sizes) are $195. If you're looking to get your hands on the limited edition haircalf collection, the standard are $245 and the made-to-measure are $265.

Thank you to Margaux for inviting me to the trunk show to take a peek at the brand! They're finishing up their tour in Austin and Houston next, so Texas is a lucky state. I can't wait to see how Margaux evolves!

How To Look Fresh On Campus (After Pulling An All-Nighter)

This post is sponsored by Target. As always, the content was completely curated by me and all opinions and thoughts are my own. *Some products are only available in Target stores*

It's throwback Thursday! Remember that time I sported that crop top and distressed boyfriend jeans on Instagram? What about that peach burnout maxi I bought right before summer? All of it was from Target! Whether I'm on campus or out and about for blogging, I get countless compliments on anything I've picked up at Target. Not only can I decorate my apartment and stock up on school supplies, but I can make sure I'm perfectly in style on campus, too!

I was on my usual Target run last week and I spotted this super cute crochet back Xhilaration dress that could not pass up! I swear I can never pick up groceries in that store without looking at clothes and shoes. I also picked up some makeup essentials for a light day on campus because (I'll be honest) I don't always wake up with enough time to do my full face routine!

L'Oreal Infallible Pro-Matte Foundation // Revlon Super Lustrous Lip Gloss in Super Natural // Rimmel London Scandaleyes kohl liner (in stores) // Sonia Kashuk nail colour in Spice It Up and Wicked Attraction

L'Oreal Infallible Pro-Matte Foundation // Revlon Super Lustrous Lip Gloss in Super Natural // Rimmel London Scandaleyes kohl liner (in stores) // Sonia Kashuk nail colour in Spice It Up and Wicked Attraction

These are the campus 'lite' essentials: a super lightweight foundation, a neutral lip gloss that will go with any outfit, the blackest eyeliner I can find to do my famous feline flick (or cat-eye), and if I'm not super-rushing to get to class, I'll apply some eyelashes! Like most girls, I only have two makeup moods -- either light or dark. I'm always wearing one or the other. If you haven't tried the color of the year, Marsala, on your nails yet...it's a must!

I've been obsessed with dresses on campus because they're so easy to slip on when you're short on time! It's far too hot in Texas to layer anything right now and even jeans can be a struggle some days. This crochet back shirt dress is perfect for a day on campus! The crochet back definitely gives some breathability and I can wear them with my Mossimo lace-up wedge sandals I bought before I went to LA or a pair of chunky platforms.

OOTD: Confidence is Key | Bold Leopard Print Skirt

I didn't always have the confidence I have today. It definitely took a few years of style soul-searching to figure myself out. Sometimes I look back and cringe at the outfit risks and blunders I made circa 2010, but I had a young, fearlessness about me that I still admire! I've always been a huge lover of bold statement skirts with classic silhouettes. Perhaps they're my way of expressing my personality to the world? I can easily slip them on with a basic tee + heels and have a perfectly pulled together outfit even when I'm at my worst.

One of the worst feelings is having your confidence trumped by Aunt Flo making a completely unexpected visit. I make sure to carry the U by Kotex traveler pack with me in my purse or tote bag for school! There's nothing worse than being unprepared and possibly ruining your outfit. Trust me -- I've been there, done that! It's not a good feeling at all. Having the traveler pack is like having the best friend with you who never breaks girl code. You can currently purchase a U by Kotex bonus pack in stores that includes the traveler pack, so you can protect your confidence at home and out-and-about! They even come in these super cute quiet wrappers that don't look like the typical tampon, so no one will even know and you don't have to feel bad about slipping one out.

The traveler pack is currently apart of the U by Kotex bonus pack that you can purchase at Walmart.

H&M Opening at Golden Triangle in Denton on August 6th

As you've probably heard a few months ago, Denton's Golden Triangle mall is opening an H&M! After four years of attending school at UNT, I'm actually happy that Golden Triangle has been undergoing a revamp and will have some new stores that will be much more attractive to students and younger people. The company is proud to have added 30 employees to the ever-expanding 15,000 US employees (for available opportunities, visit careers.hm.com) and this will be their 15th Texas location. The new 23,000 sq. ft. H&M location will open tomorrow at noon but, as always, there are perks for waiting in line early!

  • If you're one of the first 100 shoppers in line, you'll receive an all-access pass valued up to $300
  • Did you know that you can bring in old garments for the chance to win gift cards? Save mo' money!

I'm super excited about this opening since it's in Denton and hope some of my fellow UNT & TWU students will take advantage of the opening day discounts (there are always some really great ones)! The openings are always so high-energy with great shopping and beats, so this is the best time to build your wardrobe before the semester starts. Even though I don't think I'll be attending the opening tomorrow, I'm really excited to bring some new content and fall looks your way soon!

Will you be there?

Denver Trip Haul | Nordstrom, TJ Maxx, Goodwill, and LUSH [Video]

I got back from Denver last week and it was amazing! Seriously, I was beginning to think of ways that I could stay longer because everything was perfect -- the people, the culture, the weather. I appreciated being able to wear makeup and jackets without completely sweating my soul out -- it did get a little warm some days, but nothing like Texas right now. With Anniversary Sale right around the corner, I tried my best to not spend a dime but...
